The COVID-19 Sikh Gurdwara Initiative is a project in partnership with the Clinton Foundation and Fraser Health to improve public health safety measures at Gurdwaras in British Columbia during the COVID-19 Pandemic. With the active cases of COVID-19 rising in British Columbia, we want to keep patrons visiting the Gurdwaras safe. Especially, our messaging will be targeted towards our Elders who attend Gurdwaras not just for their spiritual well-being, but also for the sense of community that is formed.
Our volunteers will be stationed at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, BC. We will have specific booths set up for our volunteers to discuss physical distancing measures, distribute cloth masks, and promote hand hygiene measures with videos, which will be played in both Punjabi and English. This project is currently in the initial phase of volunteer recruitment, and Sukhmeet is in consultation with members of
Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara and the South Asian Health Initiative at Fraser Health. The aim is to get this project initiated by mid-September 2020.
